19 minute interaction on wavelength 4. Sighting on December 7 at 10AM of 1 individual quickly surfacing. No photos taken previous day. On December 8, calypso first sighted the whales off Opal and left once wavelength arrived. Whales appeared to be feeding. Depth of channel was an average of 37.5m. Whales surfaced 7 times and breathed 3-4 times each time they surfaced
ADMIN: This is potentially a rare species, the "Omura" whale, never before recorded in Australian waters until one was seen off Mission Beach last month and recorded here in this database. International experts are still waiting for more images from this observer.
ADMIN UPDATE: Confirmed by experts as the Omura whale. Species changed to Other/Unknown.
